15.05.05: Press Release
The missing link in the promotion of HDTV received its first public demonstration on the Digital Television Group's (DTG) stand at Mediacast 2005. HDS-1000 is the world’s first commercial signal source for HDTV content and provides the missing link between the availability of HDTV display units and broadcast content. Retailers of HDTV format LCD and plasma display units will no longer have to use PCs to demonstrate the picture quality of HDTV or rely on just one satellite channel.
Using a hard disk drive, HDS-1000 outputs 24 Mbit/sec. signal directly to the display unit in 1080i or 720p format. Simple to operate, contained in an ultra- slim robust case and designed to be left to operate 24 X 7, HDS-1000 is ideal for the challenging retail environment. Because each unit can support six HDTV displays it is also an economic solution.
For HDTV hardware manufacturers, broadcasters and content producers, HDS-1000 offers a simple solution of how to demonstrate HDTV content.
HDS-1000 is now being manufactured and supply is approximately one month from order.
05.05.05: Mediacast Press Conference
The technological breakthrough that enabled HDTV came with the plasma display screen allowing practical large screens. The obvious way to sell HDTV is to demonstrate its great superiority by showing HDTV content on large HDTV compatible plasma screens. However, until BskyB commences HDTV broadcasting, there is little to show. On the other hand, Sky doesn?t want to start broadcasting without an audience. Sky, and other potential HDTV Platforms throughout the world, need the retailers to get on with selling HDTV plasma screens. The obvious solution is to show recorded HDTV content. But, until today, the only way to do this was to output from a PC. As a PC has only one output port, every HDTV Screen requires its own PC. In a large retail store, everything is left switched on for 24 hours every day. It is one thing leaving a PC in standby mode but it is quite another to leave it operating and outputting 24 hours. A typical superstore has more than 300 TV sets on the go of which at least a third is plasma and the proportion is rapidly growing. To have hundreds of PCs fully operating for 24X7 is a cost and maintenance nightmare.
HDTV-Source 1000 is the first signal source for HDTV display units. It is:
1. designed for the challenging retail environment,
2. it is simple to operate designed for 24 X 7 operation. Contained in a robust but elegant case,
3. designed to support 6 HDTV screens from one HDTV Source 1000,
4. designed to support 1920 X 1080i or 1920 X 720p display. Designed for simultaneous Playback of JPEG photos,
5. designed to provide a Content Protection Scheme,
6. designed to give 1920x1080i and 720p formats storage on one DVD9 disc or HDD or CF,
7. designed to give progressive scan, PAL/NTSC and support 4:3 & 16:9 TV mode,
8. designed to give smart update function (firmware upgradeable).
For broadcasters and content producers, HDTV-Source 1000 offers a simple solution of how to demonstrate HDTV content. Using a hard disk drive, HDTV-Source 1000 outputs 24 Mbit/sec. signal directly to the display unit in 1080i or 720p format. HDTV-Source 1000 is currently being manufactured. Supply is approximately one month from order.
